Dusty Lane Spotlight
CELEBRATING THE UNSUNG HERO
Syrah
In the Sonoma Coast, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay most often claim the spotlight. While it’s true these varietals thrive in the region’s cool, maritime climate, our Spring Release offers the perfect opportunity to celebrate a more unsung coastal hero: Syrah. Farmed organically by our longtime grower partner, Professor John Dierke, the Dusty Lane Syrah has been a Radio-Coteau exclusive since 2008, and we are pleased to feature two special vintages this season. Grown on Dierke’s West Sebastopol hillside vineyard, the site is shaped by natural fog and coastal breezes that drift through its unique topography, creating ideal conditions for this expressive varietal.
2022 Dusty Lane Sonoma Coast Syrah
With a 35% whole cluster inclusion and aged for 20 months in neutral, tight-grained French oak 500L puncheons, the 2022 Dusty Lane displays a youthful gravitas of dark fruit and mineral tension intertwined with its signature savory nature. Brimming with energy, it is ready to show off its coastal origins with a lively enthusiasm that will continue to unfold with time in bottle.
2017 Dusty Lane Sonoma Coast Syrah
Crafted with a similar 20-month élevage and comparable 31% whole cluster inclusion, the 2017 Dusty Lane offers a compelling view of how time can shape this wine. With five additional years of age, its characteristically savory backbone shines through, with umami notes woven around dark figs, integrated tannins, and a dusty earthiness befitting its name origins. For those curious folks with neither the patience nor cellar space for extended aging, the 2017 is in an exceptional drinking window and beautifully expresses the elegant evolution this coastal Syrah can offer.
