2020 radio-coteau heintz bottle shot

Vineyard Profile

Located just a stone’s throw across Harrison Grade from the Estate, the Heintz Ranch is a pedigreed site with mature vines in the hills above Occidental. Planted on Goldridge sandy loam soil, the organically grown fruit is nurtured by moderately warm days and cool evenings, resulting in a richness balanced by lively acidity. With Mother Nature’s guidance, we picked the 2020 Heintz Chardonnay at the end of August with a touch lower brix, yet with the natural richness of fruit and vibrant acidity both shining. Fermentation and élevage in a mix of concrete egg and neutral oak rounded the edges, and a steady hand at racking and bottling time yielded brilliant clarity without fining or filtering.

Tasting Notes

Opening with bright notes of crisp apple and yellow pear alongside delicate tropical tones of ripe lychee, the 2020 Heintz Chardonnay displays a captivating fresh complexity. An elegant touch of rich white corn runs throughout, lending a graceful roundness to the palate. Subtle wood tannins add structure, gently framing the fruit, while brisk acidity punctuates the lengthy, layered finish.
