2021 Heintz chardonnay bottle

Vineyard Profile

Located just a stone’s throw across Harrison Grade from the Estate, the Heintz Ranch is a pedigreed site with mature vines in the hills above Occidental. Planted on Goldridge sandy loam soil, the organically grown fruit is nurtured by moderately warm days and cool evenings, resulting in a richness balanced by lively acidity. Harvested in mid-September, the 2021 Heintz was gently whole cluster pressed, in keeping with our cellar custom. Moderate sugars and healthy native vineyard flora shepherded steady, “low and slow” fermentations, yielding a vintage with a rounded focus pleasantly punctuated by true Heintz signature acidity.

Tasting Notes

The 2021 Heintz Sonoma Coast Chardonnay shines pale yellow in the glass, revealing a subtle green tint along the rim. Warm apple, toasted almond, and brioche notes join whispers of vanilla bean and river stone. The medium weight body offers flavors that seemingly melt on the palate and linger temptingly on the finish. A balanced acidity lifts faint hints of oak and suggests potential for patient cellaring.
