Located just a stone’s throw across Harrison Grade from the Estate, the Heintz Ranch is a pedigreed site with mature vines in the hills above Occidental. Planted on Goldridge sandy loam soil, the organically grown fruit is nurtured by moderately warm days and cool evenings, resulting in a richness balanced by lively acidity.
Heintz’s growing season often follows a more traditional and classically coastal trajectory with glorious diurnal shifts ripening during the day and a soothing maritime cooling effect from dusk till dawn. After handpicking the golden Heintz clusters in the early morning, we carefully whole-cluster press the fruit and coax the young wine through low and slow fermentations in a classic oak aging program. These thoughtful cellar practices allow the storied fruit to shine through.
