2017 Radio-Coteau Lemorel bottle

Vineyard Profile

Expressing the unique character of a cool climate Zinfandel on Goldridge soil, Radio-Coteau’s Sonoma Coast Estate vineyard resides on a sun-drenched coastal ridge top above the town of Occidental. Lemorel is a tribute to the pioneering winegrowing family, folks who not only planted some of the first coastal Zinfandel, but also built the old historic winery back in 1906, currently still in-use though retired from original intent. Harvested on a cool, crisp morning in mid-September, the 2017 Lemorel is comprised of distinctive, gnarly vines planted in 1946. This vintage is especially limited in quantity, with fewer than 100 cases available.

Tasting Notes

The 2017 Lemorel Estate Zinfandel exhibits rich, dark berry fruit that belies its cool coastal origins. Robust notes of blackberry compote and ripe blueberry leap from the glass and instantly charm the palate. Layered hints of sweetgrass and baking spices accompany the crushed fruit, all enhanced by a delicate flintiness woven throughout. The unctuous entry is balanced by structured tannins and bright acidity, adroitly leading to a crisp, lingering finish. The 2017 Lemorel is exciting and powerful, with an extensive cellaring potential befitting its noble origins.

Wine Reviews

May 2019 | (91-94) points

“The 2017 Zinfandel Lemorel Estate is showing beautifully from barrel. Pliant and inviting, with striking aromatics, the 2017 is bright, racy and super-expressive. Lifted, perfumed notes perk up the red berry fruit nicely.”
