Long before it was planted to vineyards, the area encompassing our Estate was under water, the floor of an ocean embayment that extended inland through modern-day Sebastopol. Through a series of tectonic shifts, the earth was ultimately transformed into the now iconic rolling hills of West Sonoma County. The sandy loam remnants of the ancient sea are still present in the Goldridge soil, and the biodynamically grown Estate SeaBed Chardonnay serves as a vestige of this history. Harvested on October 5th, the blocks comprising the SeaBed Chardonnay ripened steadily amidst the cooler growing season, maintaining vibrancy and fruit clarity. Élevage in 25% new tight-grained French oak, followed by two months in stainless steel, framed the depth of fruit character while sustaining its mineral-driven spine and characteristic salinity.
Poised from the outset, the 2023 SeaBed Estate Chardonnay opens with high-toned notes of fresh yuzu and mandarin zest, accented by hints of honeysuckle, fragrant white blossoms, and a delicate saline edge. Like ocean waves, there’s a palpable energy, with crackling acidity held in tension with layered, nuanced fruit and a fine chalky texture. The finish is delectably prolonged, with a gentle touch of wood tannin and a lingering minerality that underscores the refinement and staying power of this cool, coastal gem.

“The 2023 Chardonnay Estate SeaBed is the most complete of the Radio-Coteau Chardonnays. Bold and ample in feel, the 2023 offers up a beguiling mix of orchard fruit, sage, mint, licorice, dried flowers and chamomile. The Estate Chardonnay is defined by a feeling of breadth that is undeniably appealing.”
