Wingtine Chardonnay is named after the specialized wing tine shank used to cultivate Goldridge soil, including our own Estate farm. By lifting and fracturing the soil vertically and horizontally, this specialized wing–shaped plow reduces tractor passes, while maintaining soil structure and integrating sustainable farming practices. For the first time, the 2019 Wingtine Chardonnay includes a portion of the Estate component fermented in concrete egg, with the remaining lots barrel fermented in neutral and once-used French oak. This neighborly blend of fruit from the Heintz Ranch and the Estate showcases classic Sonoma Coast Chardonnay character.
The 2019 Wingtine Chardonnay is rounded and succulent, with exciting tension and a youthful freshness. Vivid notes of crisp apple, ripe pear, and yellow citrus highlight mouthwatering acidity that engages the palate. Alluring hints of lemongrass and toasted hazelnut weave amongst softly sweet narcissus and honeysuckle, grounded by a distinguished minerality. The lively yet delicate balance of acid and sweetness on the palate ultimately culminates in a clean, pithy finish that lingers effortlessly.
“The 2019 Chardonnay Wingtine is impressive. Large-scaled and ample, the Wingtine is also wonderfully nuanced. There is a sense of transparency to the 2019 that is utterly beguiling. Lemon oil, mint, white pepper, sage and chamomile are some of the many aromas and flavors that develop in the glass. Strong savory and mineral accents add notable complexity.”
