Vineyard Profile

Long before it was planted to vineyards, the area encompassing our Estate was under water, the floor of an ocean embayment that extended inland through modern-day Sebastopol. Through a series of tectonic shifts, the earth was ultimately transformed into the now iconic rolling hills of West Sonoma County. The sandy loam remnants of the ancient sea are still present in the Goldridge soil, and the Estate-grown SeaBed Chardonnay serves as a vestige of this history. Biodynamically farmed and reflecting its coastal clime, the 2018 SeaBed was low yielding, with small clusters and tiny berries. The result is a highly focused Chardonnay, with vibrant acidity and a gentle salinity that is quickly becoming a hallmark of this Estate fruit.

Tasting Notes

Our second vintage of Chardonnay from the Estate, the 2018 SeaBed is an elegant representation of both the crispness and complexity of the Sonoma Coast. Intense notes of lemon zest, ripe yuzu, and apple blossom greet the nose and palate, rounded by a whispered tropicality of fresh young coconut. The palate is layered and inviting, combining piquant citrus notes with a delicate touch of vanilla. A mouthwatering minerality reminiscent of crushed oyster shells runs throughout, harmonizing with depth and freshness long through the luxurious finish. Focused and structured, this unique Estate Chardonnay will continue to age gracefully over the next few years – if you can stand the wait.

Wine Reviews

April 2020 | (93-95) points

“Radio-Coteau’s 2018 Chardonnay Estate SeaBed, from the home vineyard, is a powerful, structured Chardonnay that at times is more suggestive of a red wine. Old Wente clone Chardonnays yield small clusters and small berries, and that intensity really comes through in the wine’s feel. Orange peel, honey and light tropical overtones marry beautifully with its ample presence. This is a serious, rich Chardonnay that will truly come alive at the dinner table.
