Long before it was planted to vineyards, the area encompassing our Estate was under water, the floor of an ocean embayment that extended inland through modern-day Sebastopol. Through a series of tectonic shifts, the earth was ultimately transformed into the now iconic rolling hills of West Sonoma County. The sandy loam remnants of the ancient sea are still present in the Goldridge soil, and the Estate-grown SeaBed Chardonnay serves as a vestige of this history. Farmed Biodynamically, the 2017 SeaBed Sonoma Coast Estate Chardonnay was native fermented and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Our first vintage from this Estate fruit, the 2017 SeaBed is a highly anticipated addition to the Radio-Coteau core.
Our inaugural vintage from the Estate, the 2017 SeaBed Chardonnay is an approachably sophisticated expression of Sonoma Coast terroir. Bright flavors of kaffir lime and orange blossom unfold from the glass, complemented by notes of lemon curd and freshly shredded coconut. A distinct and elegant salinity runs throughout, highlighting the marine origins of this unique site. The mouthfeel is multilayered, with a roundness balanced by vibrant citrus and an underlying minerality. An initial touch of creaminess yields to refreshing acidity and a mouthwatering, lingering finish.
“The 2017 Chardonnay Estate SeaBed, from Radio-Coteau’s estate vineyard, is shaping up to be a real gem. Bright and focused, with tremendous energy, the 2017 is a wonderfully complete wine. Lemon confit, white flowers and bright saline notes are some of the signatures. This striking Chardonnay from Radio-Coteau is loaded with potential.”
