2015 Savoy Pinot bottle

Vineyard Profile

On a stunning hillside vineyard located in the heart of Anderson Valley, Savoy’s Pinot Noir grapes develop intense flavor over a growing season lengthened by the cooling maritime influence that funnels through the valley. A complex patchwork of clonal selections, each block is farmed to its own specific needs. Hand-picked at night and trucked to the cellar in the early morning allows for optimum handling and whole berry integrity. Hailing from older, firmly established vines, and energized by the cool spring weather, the 2015 Savoy Pinot Noir vines reached full potential, as reduced yields and tiny berries allowed us to craft one of our best expressions to date.

Tasting Notes

The 2015 Savoy Anderson Valley Pinot Noir is striking in the depth of its concentration. Fruit and savory elements develop simultaneously, with fresh black cherry, strawberry, and pomegranate on both the nose and palate. Mild leather, mushroom and freshly turned humus provide an earthen balance to the fruit. Flanked by mouth-watering acidity and dusty tannin, this wine has a long finish that continues to unfold long after the last sip with notes of clove, cinnamon, vanilla bean, and a hint of caramel.

“Eric Sussman selects fruit from several of the older blocks at Savoy, planted from 1991 to ‘96, for this silken, refreshingly tangy pinot noir. It has the woodsy flavor of raspberries picked at the forest edge, along with a coastal salinity that brings to mind nori. AndersonValley cool and spicy, this wine’s intensity emanates from its center, without any excess extract to block it. The fresh flavors last, predicting a long life ahead.”

“Radio-Coteau’s 2015 Pinot Noir Savoy shows the exotic, racy personality of the year in its super-ripe red fruit, hard candy, spice and soaring aromatics and voluptuous personality. The Savoy is the most overtly ripe of these 2015 Pinots, and yet all the elements simply fall into place effortlessly.”
