2014 lemorel bottle

Vineyard Profile

Expressing the unique character of a cool climate Zinfandel on Goldridge soil, Radio-Coteau’s Sonoma Coast Estate vineyard resides on a sun-drenched coastal ridge top above the town of Occidental. Lemorel is a tribute to the pioneering winegrowing family, folks who not only planted some of the first coastal Zinfandel, but also built the old historic winery back in 1906, currently still in-use though retired from original intent. A 21-month élevage and an extra year of bottle age have rounded out the 2014 vintage of Lemorel. The 2014 Lemorel Estate Zinfandel is a rare and classic bottling of old vine cool-climate Zinfandel.

Tasting Notes

The 2014 Lemorel Zinfandel hails from the estate property nestled in the hills above Occidental. Zinfandel, a novelty on the true Sonoma Coast, provides a unique expression and counterpoint to those made in warmer climes. As in past vintages, Lemorel continues to be characterized by its strong acid backbone. The acidity provides a brightness that further highlights the fruit in the wine. Dried red cherry, tart blackberry, fresh berry compote, fresh apricot, and spiced plums quarrel amongst one another to be heard. Fruit yields to a hint of violets, amongst other spices and herbs. An exotic yet faint note of sarsaparilla is perceived amongst characters of sage and thyme. Finally, the familiar baking spice aromas of vanilla bean and cinnamon provides a fitting conclusion to this special estate zinfandel.
