Radio-Coteau 2017 Dierke Pinot Noir Bottle

Vineyard Profile

Dierke’s organically certified hillside vineyard is nestled just off Bodega Highway within a diverse habitat of fruit trees, vegetable gardens, and beneficial plants. Notoriously exuberant and powerful, like the grower himself, the Dierke vineyard teems with life every season. In 2017, the warm, dry growing conditions were conducive to increased stem lignification, and the resulting 40% whole cluster inclusion in the Dierke is evident in its aromatic lift and rich, spicy complexity.

Tasting Notes

Deep garnet in color, the 2017 Dierke Pinot Noir unleashes bold dark notes of succulent blackberry, ripe black cherry, and crushed cassis. Intriguing floral hints of dried lavender and violets lend a delicate touch to the mid palate, interwoven with warm spice elements of nutmeg and clove. An appealing whisper of cocoa bean lingers amongst an earthy component of freshly pulled beets. With finely structured tannins, the brooding intensity gives way to a refined and compelling finish.

Wine Reviews

January 2020 | 94 points

“The 2017 Pinot Noir Dierke is powerful, rich and heady, all of which make it an absolutely joy to taste. The heat of the year comes through in the wine’s virile feel and overall intensity. Dried flowers, mint, tobacco, cedar and licorice all add aromatic nuance, but more than anything else, the Dierke is a Pinot of structure. The 40% stems work so well here, but I would give the wine time in bottle to allow the tannins to soften.”
