2019 Radio-Coteau Dierke bottle shot

Vineyard Profile

Dierke’s organically certified hillside vineyard is nestled just off Bodega Highway within a diverse habitat of fruit trees, vegetable gardens, and beneficial plants. Notoriously exuberant and powerful, like the grower himself, the Dierke vineyard teems with life every season. The 2019 vintage was harvested under ideal growing conditions in mid-September. In the cellar, we were charmed as beautiful, full berries tumbled like marbles, and chose to ferment this vintage of Dierke with fully destemmed fruit, showcasing the purity and perfume of this esteemed site.

Tasting Notes

The dense garnet color of the 2019 Dierke Pinot Noir well communicates its concentrated dark fruit earthiness. Brambly blackberries, ripe black plum, and dried Mission fig layer overtop a diverse array of savory notes including nutmeg, mushroom, and black tea. A touch of sassafras adds intriguing warmth and complexity to the expansive mid-palate, followed closely by a nuanced dark chocolate and cassis finish. Expressive, structured tannins complement the 2019 Dierke’s flavorful intensity and further emphasize its long-term ageability.
