2022 Seabed bottle

2024 Fall Release

Vineyard Profile

Long before it was planted to vineyards, the area encompassing our Estate was under water, the floor of an ocean embayment that extended inland through modern-day Sebastopol. Through a series of tectonic shifts, the earth was ultimately transformed into the now iconic rolling hills of West Sonoma County. The sandy loam remnants of the ancient sea are still present in the Goldridge soil, and the biodynamically grown Estate SeaBed Chardonnay serves as a vestige of this history. In 2022, the blocks comprising the SeaBed Chardonnay reached physiological maturity in late August with lower yields and beautifully concentrated flavors. In the cellar, we began a 16-month élevage in 25% new tight-grained French oak barrels, then chose to rack the SeaBed into stainless steel for two months to tighten up its classically mineral-driven spine.

Tasting Notes

The 2022 SeaBed Estate Chardonnay provides a sophisticated snapshot of the cool Sonoma Coast. Zesty bergamot orange and lemon meringue skillfully commingle with spring floral notes of sweet pea and young chamomile. Hints of lemon thyme weave throughout, while tangy white currant dances with a touch of fresh corn. Imparting a refreshing vitality on both the nose and palate is an invigorating coastal salinity that has quickly become the SeaBed’s signature. A distinctive slate-like minerality and soft touch of oak spice join the chorus, while the ocean’s influence continues through the polished and persistent finish.

Wine Reviews

July 2024 | 95 points

“The 2022 Chardonnay Estate SeaBed is another stand-out from Radio-Coteau. Strong mineral and savory inflections give the SeaBed its distinctive personality. Dried herbs, chamomile, slate, crushed rocks and dried citrus peel lend notable complexity throughout. This is such a gorgeous and complete wine.”
