Radio-Coteau 2020 Savoy Chardonnay bottle shot

Vineyard Profile

Burgundy has proven that quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir can be grown in the same soil, Corton hill being the classic example. Wines from this special place inspired our decision to make Chardonnay from the Savoy Vineyard, whose soil and climate are also ideal for both Burgundian varietals. In pursuit of quality, we often drop clusters throughout the growing season to allow the vines to focus their energy on less fruit. In 2020, Mother nature assisted in the Savoy Chardonnay blocks, resulting in incredibly low-yielding yet clean, tight clusters with concentrated flavors. We picked at modest brix, followed by a 17-month élevage in predominantly once-used tight-grained French oak, and the 2020 Savoy Chardonnay bottling beautifully showcases this noble Anderson Valley site.

Tasting Notes

The 2020 Savoy Chardonnay is a welcoming and full-bodied representation of Anderson Valley. Rounded aromas of poached pear and fresh lemon curd hint at an initial richness that is deftly balanced by a refreshing pop of bright acidity on the palate. Subtle notes of walnut and toasted honey beckon, leading to a crisp orange pithiness. Lifted and lengthened by a racy core, its succulent texture persists long after the last sip.
