Burgundy has proven that quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir can be grown in the same soil, Corton hill being the classic example. Wines from this special place inspired our decision to make Chardonnay from the Savoy Vineyard, whose soil and climate are also ideal for both Burgundian varietals. With cool, steady growing conditions, the 2018 vintage is classic and true to form. Picked in late September, the Savoy Chardonnay stands out for its consistency, once again featuring a harmonious balance of two clones–citrusy, mineral-driven Wente, and rich, fruit-focused Prosser.
Opening with effusive aromas of lemon crema, ripe yellow pear, and acacia blossom, the 2018 Savoy Chardonnay displays a lush nose that is well complemented by gentle citrus acidity on the palate. A hint of nuttiness by way of toasted almond and a vibrant white pepper note add complexity, interlaced with refreshing wet stone minerality. The textured weight and delicate acidity yield a lengthy finish that is simultaneously rounded and light. In addition to providing immediate enjoyment, the 2018 Savoy Chardonnay will also reward patient cellaring.
“Radio-Coteau’s 2018 Chardonnay Savoy is such a pretty wine. Pliant, creamy and wonderfully open-knit, the 2018 will drink well right out of the gate. Lemon confit, white flowers, mint and white pepper all open up effortlessly in the glass. The interplay of textural oiliness and freshness makes for an absolutely delicious and inviting Chardonnay. I loved it.”
