Those who have enjoyed our organically and biodynamically grown wines over the last decade may recall the lineup once included a Riesling hailing from a coastal Sonoma site. Historically, Riesling and Pinot Noir have shown to be quite compatible neighbors, sharing an affinity for cooler microclimates and well-drained sandy soils. Thus, as Pinot Noir thrives in the cool clime and balanced Goldridge soil of the Estate, Riesling seemed a natural addition to the unique tapestry of the vineyard. Beginning with budwood collection and rootstock planting, through ten months of sur lie aging in stainless steel, and followed by careful racking, the 2019 Sonoma Coast Estate Riesling is the culmination of a decade-long journey.
Our inaugural vintage, and with fewer than 20 cases produced, the 2019 Sonoma Coast Estate Riesling adds a special element to the unique tapestry of the Estate vineyard. Unfiltered, the shimmering, brilliant clarity is a testament to adept hands in the cellar. Perfumed floral notes of honeysuckle and narcissus beckon from the glass, followed by brightly accented fruit elements of crisp apple and fresh Meyer lemon. Hints of chamomile and Key lime zest lend character and well-balanced pithiness, while a cool flint minerality entwines throughout. The delicate entry yields to a vibrant mid-palate, culminating in a lingering, energetic finish. Dynamic in its youth, the 2019 Riesling further hints at a rich complexity awaiting the patient collector.
