2022 heintz bottle

Vineyard Profile

Located just a stone’s throw across Harrison Grade from the Estate, the Heintz Ranch is a pedigreed site with mature vines in the hills above Occidental. Planted on Goldridge sandy loam soil, the organically grown fruit is nurtured by moderately warm days and cool evenings, resulting in a richness balanced by lively acidity. Following two dry years, yields in 2022 were low across the board, and the Heintz vineyard was no exception. Aged 16 months in barrel with 25% new, tight-grained French oak, only 100 cases were produced of this exquisite coastal Chardonnay.

Tasting Notes

The powerful aromatics of the 2022 Heintz Chardonnay reveal a rich, dense core deftly integrated with brisk acidity. Lemon curd and white peach notes intertwine with subtle hints of toasted popcorn and candy cap mushroom. The enticing bouquet is confirmed on the palate, elegantly lingering alongside nutty hazelnut and a drying touch of flint. An ethereal acidity traverses throughout the serious mouthfeel, inviting contemplation with every sip and promising lengthy bottle aging.

Wine Reviews

July 2024 | 95 points

“The 2022 Chardonnay Heintz is superb. A wine of poise and nuance, the Heinz is so impressive. Citrus confit, passion fruit, white flowers, mint, spice and chamomile infuse the 2022 with tons of complexity. Even with all of its obvious richness, the 2022 retains a striking sense of translucent elegance. ”
