Dusty Lane winds down and around Dierke’s organically certified hillside vineyard. Tucked away on a southern facing slope, the site is consistently flushed with onshore cooling at dawn and dusk, resulting in extended flavor development and vibrant fruit character. This vineyard gem is sourced exclusively by Radio–Coteau. Powerful and ageworthy tannin heed the call of this seductive 2014 Sonoma Coast Syrah. With an extended hang-time and 39% whole-cluster inclusion in the fermenter, the 2014 Dusty Lane Syrah was bottled after a 21-month élevage in puncheon. Given the generous fruit profile and ageworthy structure, this beauty is ready to enjoy today and for many years to come.

Tasting Notes

The 2014 Dusty Lane is nearly opaque, underscoring the dark fruit that abounds from this cool-climate Sonoma Coast Syrah. Fresh black cherry, tart black plum, dried fig, and cassis confirm the appearance in glass. Lavender and freshly turned potting soil highlight earthier tones. Exhibiting a decidedly suavage character of grilled meat, while rosemary and other fresh herbs are conjured up alongside curing spices and peppercorn. Full bodied, the wine envelopes the entire palate while well structured tannins keep this Syrah on the rails and enjoyable through the lingering finish.

“The 2014 Syrah Dusty Lane comes from another Sonoma Coast vineyard planted in Goldridge soils, this one south-facing. Sussman used 39% whole clusters and aged the wine 21 months in 20% new French oak before bottling it unfined and unfiltered. This is a big St.-Joseph/Crozes-Hermitage style of Syrah from California, with a dense purple color and a big, sweet kiss of damp earth, ground pepper, steak tartare, black olive tapenade, blackberry and cassis. It is layered, full-bodied, juicy, and stunningly rich and long. This is a killer and should drink nicely for 10-15 years.”
