2025 Spring Release

Vineyard Profile

Planted on a ridge top above the town of Occidental, Belay is our Demeter certified Biodynamic® Estate Pinot Noir. Our goal is to nurture the fruit from grape to glass, which increasingly becomes a reality with each Estate planting. As we become more vertically integrated, we find winegrowing a monumental task akin to climbing a mountain, with the Belay serving as both an anchor and stepping stone on our journey of ascension. Pinot Noir is an especially sensitive varietal, and as harvest approaches, the vineyard team keeps a watchful eye on the Belay fruit, with diligent multiple daily checks to guide picking and cellar decisions. In 2022, our observations influenced a 12% whole cluster inclusion and 17-month élevage in one-third new tight-grained French oak barrel and puncheon. The care and intention devoted to this deeply personal site is once again evident in this impressive and noteworthy expression.

Tasting Notes

With a vibrant core of red fruit, the 2022 Belay Estate Pinot Noir radiates Bing cherry, crushed cranberry, and wild strawberry. Intricate layers of baking spices and a touch of black peppercorn add depth to the high-toned fruit. Crunchy acidity and finely textured tannins harmonize throughout the focused, lively palate, while the impressive length underscores the refined structure. While immediately engaging, the framework of the 2022 Belay suggests remarkable aging potential for the patient collector.

Wine Reviews

July 2024 | 95 points

“The 2022 Pinot Noir Estate Belay is a rich, intense wine. All the signatures of this site are amplified in a dramatic, enveloping Pinot that delivers all the goods. Gravel, dried herbs, crushed rocks and dark red/purplish fruit abound. This large-scaled Pinot has a ton to offer. “
