2016 Terra Neuma sold out bottle

Vineyard Profile

Exposed to the rigors of the foggy Sonoma coastline, this sixth-generation family-owned ranch resides on a bluff above Bodega, a few miles from the Pacific Ocean. This marginal site on the edge of the Sonoma Coast, Demeter certified Biodynamic® and farmed by the Benzigers, is characterized by consistently low yields and extended hang times. Cool temperatures during bloom resulted in another modest harvest in 2016, with only three barrels produced. Extremely limited, the 2016 Terra Neuma is a wild optimist, rewarding upon release or with patient cellar ageing.

Tasting Notes

The 2016 Terra Neuma Pinot Noir is wonderfully vibrant in its youth and will develop well in bottle. Initially, a deep ruby core and an alluring impression of fresh black cherry and Santa Rosa plum are enticing, yet attention quickly turns to earth tones with fennel hues and a savory mushroom character. Fall spices of nutmeg and clove further develop complexity. Showcasing fine tannins and a pleasant acidity, the 2016 Terra Neuma comes full circle with a hint of brandied orange rind on the finish.

Wine Reviews

April 2018 | (92-95)

“The 2016 Pinot Noir Terra Neuma is always one of the more savory, pungent wines in this range. Rose petal, white pepper, lavender, sage and mint all lift from the glass. The 2016 was done with only a dollop (15%) of whole clusters, but the flavor and structural profiles suggest otherwise. Clean mineral notes add a sense of urgency to the super-expressive finish.”
