Burgundy has proven that quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir can be grown in the same soil, Corton hill being the classic example. Wines from this special place inspired our decision to make Chardonnay from the Savoy Vineyard, whose soil and climate are also ideal for both Burgundian varietals. The 2017 vintage once again highlights the complementary coupling of two distinct Chardonnay clones, with the citrus and mineral notes of Wente effortlessly balanced by the delicate richness of Prosser.
The 2017 Savoy Chardonnay delights with notes of lemon verbena, kumquat, and Fuji apple. A hint of freshly-baked pie crust deftly commingles with crisp d’Anjou pear and ripe yuzu. The palate displays a graceful roundness, punctuated by a delicate burst of acidity on the finish. At once both smooth and vibrant, the Savoy Chardonnay offers a complexity that lingers long after the last sip.
“The 2017 Chardonnay Savoy is bright, fresh and wonderfully nuanced. Lemon confit, white flowers, and mint are all nicely delineated. Medium in body and energetic, with terrific tension, the 2017 has a lot to offer. This is another very pretty and expressive wine from Radio-Coteau.”
