Those who have enjoyed our organically and biodynamically grown wines over the last decade may recall the lineup once included a Riesling hailing from a coastal Sonoma site. Historically, Riesling and Pinot Noir have shown to be quite compatible neighbors, sharing an affinity for cooler microclimates and well-drained sandy soils. Thus, as Pinot Noir thrives in the cool clime and balanced Goldridge soil of the Estate, Riesling was a natural addition to the unique tapestry of the vineyard. The 2020 vintage was picked in the cool hours of the early morning in late August and immediately transferred to press to protect the purity of fruit and aromatic nuances of this special wine. With its first inclusion in a major release in nearly six years, we officially welcome Riesling back into the Radio-Coteau fold, now nurtured by our hand from budwood to bottle.
The 2020 Estate Riesling abounds with dynamic aromas of fresh honeysuckle, jasmine, and d’Anjou pear. Hints of ripe star fruit and perfumed bergamot on the entry add a delicate sweetness, balanced by vibrant acidity that runs throughout and leads into a bright, pithy finish. An exciting steeliness is accompanied by a finessed whisper of petrol, hinting at what awaits the patient collector. Well-structured, with a youthful character, the 2020 Estate Riesling is charismatic upon release and will only continue to unfold its charms over time.
