2018 Radio-Coteau Las Colinas bottle

Vineyard Profile

The Las Colinas Syrah is indicative of what is possible for cool-climate Syrah as it captures the essence of the western Sonoma Coast appellation. Élevage in 500-liter French oak puncheons helps to preserve fruit and spice, and affords graceful aging in the cellar. In 2018, Mother Nature’s grace allowed for a more leisurely Syrah harvest and a modest amount of whole cluster inclusion. The result for this select barrel blend of biodynamically farmed Harrison Grade Estate and organically farmed Dusty Lane fruit is a coastal Syrah that is at once both lithe and powerful.

Tasting Notes

The initial fresh dark plum and black currant fruit character in the 2018 Las Colinas Syrah beautifully augments the harmonious amalgam of earth and game at its core. Herbaceous dried thyme and rosemary mingle with cracked black peppercorn and a touch of brambly dustiness. Further fruit expressions of dried cranberry and kirsh give way to a compelling grilled meat quality. The palate is robust, with moderate acidity lifting textured tannins, for a truly exciting expression of Sonoma Coast Syrah.

Wine Reviews

“The 2018 Syrah Las Colinas is a powerful, savory wine. In this vintage, the Colinas is a real powerhouse. Savory and peppery flavors abound. I am quite honestly surprised to see how reticent the Colinas is. Readers should plan on cellaring it for at least a few years. There is a lot of wine here, and certainly a lot to look forward to.”
